Wordless Wednesday - Legofest

We had an awesome time at Legofest. If you ever get a chance to go it is worth it.  There are so many stations and builds for the kids to do, master builder classes, life size builds, races, etc. it takes the entire 4 hours. Be sure and bring a bag for freebies and get there a bit early for parking.

Curriculum for 4th Grade

book-graphic-300x237

We have been busy here finishing up school before spring break. We have about a month left then we will take a 6 week or so break and start our new year in July. We do school year round with 2 or 3 three longer breaks throughout the year.  It works great for us, Kiddo can’t handle the heat of summer so it is a great time to get school in and then in spring and fall when the weather is cooler we take a break and enjoy the outdoors

I have been researching and researching curriculum for next year, with geography being the trouble subject this year. I just can’t find what I want so I will piece it together.  Kiddo wants to learn Japanese this year, really Japanese!  I have tried to talk to him out of it without much luck  so Japanese it is.  I am going to use LiveMocha and see how it goes. I have started a list of literature I want him to read this year, he reads so much on his own I have never really made him read certain books but this year I have started a list with his input.

Here is my curriculum list for next year I have not ordered yet so it is subject to change Smile

Multiplication Game

IMG_0820_edited-1

I have commented on here before how Kiddo just can not/will not memorize his multiplication tables. He can figure out the problem but doesn’t have them memorized and it is slowing down his math progression.  So we have been working on them and hopefully get them memorized.

I made a game(bribe) for us to do.  I bought 2 packages of Jumbo craft sticks and wrote a multiplication problem on each stick  problems 0 – 12s using my pretty 1980’s Sharpie colors.

And here is the game(bribe).  He pulls out one stick and if he answers the question correctly he gets to keep the stick if he gets the answer wrong the stick goes back into the jar.  Once he collects all the sticks he gets a prize.

Weekly Review

weekly review graphic 2

Good morning, I hope everyone had a good weekend. We have been busy on a few home improvement projects.  Even though it is only February it looks like it is time to start mowing the yard and my roses are starting to come out.   I am not ready for yard work just yet.

We had a good week last week, for lessons last week we did something we have done in a long time. A subject a day lessons, it is a great way to break up homeschool without taking a break for school. Kiddo likes the difference and makes school go faster it seems.

Today we are studying all things Presidents for Presidents Day and tomorrow will get back to a regular schedule.

Just a reminder if you if have not signed up yet for Six Flags reading program it is not too late.  You get free tickets for child reading 6 hours and homeschoolers are eligible.

Here is the link to sign up.

Happy Heart Day!

While celebrating everything hearts this month, remember our littlest heart warriors during CHD awareness week.

One in every 100 babies born in the U.S each year will be diagnosed with congenital heart defect, and up to  30% of those will be considered critical congenital heart defects, meaning those that will result in death without surgical correction within the first year of life. During this week of CHD awarness we do what we can to raise awareness for the detection and treatment of CHDs. Early detection is key in order to save the lives of children affected by a CHD.

Kiddo is our heart warrior. He was born with Tetralogy of Fallot and had open heart surgery at 6 months. He will most likely need another surgery in the future.
