It seems impossible but here we go :) This year I made myself a new planner and I made Kiddo a planner because he wanted one and I think it will be a great way for him to help manage his time and be more productive. <br />
<br />
<span style="color: red; font-size: x-large;"><b>Kiddo's Game Plan Planner </b></span><br />
<br />
<br />
For his planner he picked Minecraft for his colors (black and lime green) with stickers for everything he likes Doctor Who, Marvel, Hot Wheels, DC Comics and LEGO. <br />
<br />
<br />
I used an ARC disc planner from Staples. I love the arc disc system you can make planners or notebooks from anything and you can easily add any type or size of paper or accessories. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5AOuWRLM8XyWbDissf6R_DncddbN-NrpLWtMTT8RCuB7yaMRBSpQxu8c6MIkpiHKG_7yhC2S0jt_CcfFLVSiARUFKQ0ciO7HFvREnhbRhiSHZ9r4G-hpN694FZtHjLmBj7HyBxBki-s3K/s1600/SAM_0585_edited-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5AOuWRLM8XyWbDissf6R_DncddbN-NrpLWtMTT8RCuB7yaMRBSpQxu8c6MIkpiHKG_7yhC2S0jt_CcfFLVSiARUFKQ0ciO7HFvREnhbRhiSHZ9r4G-hpN694FZtHjLmBj7HyBxBki-s3K/s1600/SAM_0585_edited-1.JPG" height="320" width="276" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
His cover page I used minecraft paper. </div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8y49VFRTnEKSjvG7ogzDVzU1SPl2E2sKnmb7o1y0jnYSYESxG2G8D4bBOmt57Spp6fPMfMRZLWJAMpmlByxOc_gJH3xLg0dqy0Wi-_JI3ETCnqgjHmzHrRSG2lMGnt6HbV5umYSXNHn9o/s1600/SAM_0580_edited-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8y49VFRTnEKSjvG7ogzDVzU1SPl2E2sKnmb7o1y0jnYSYESxG2G8D4bBOmt57Spp6fPMfMRZLWJAMpmlByxOc_gJH3xLg0dqy0Wi-_JI3ETCnqgjHmzHrRSG2lMGnt6HbV5umYSXNHn9o/s1600/SAM_0580_edited-1.JPG" height="183" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
He has post it notes for marking pages and books plus it is Doctor Who. There is a zip pocket for stickers, pens etc. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkN4__wC2SYEdYF0wnkqKjw4CUstPtUNG848cAsqhbTw5bJ5ylyjtUnL6TejTiLoYYQV9GkJ_2yDVp13g4l8-EtamZrZ8nw0-NV9qy_PyNo8g9C_wc2vyuns_IK3nyw4m4v02xAKEE8IfQ/s1600/SAM_0582_edited-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkN4__wC2SYEdYF0wnkqKjw4CUstPtUNG848cAsqhbTw5bJ5ylyjtUnL6TejTiLoYYQV9GkJ_2yDVp13g4l8-EtamZrZ8nw0-NV9qy_PyNo8g9C_wc2vyuns_IK3nyw4m4v02xAKEE8IfQ/s1600/SAM_0582_edited-1.JPG" height="320" width="304" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
His lesson plans are from Donna Young free printables and here I will put his whole week of lessons. I am going to let him decide when he does what, as long as everything is complete by the end of the week. We will see how that goes. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz5seVe2M9kH3SPEMsaYLe6cjm5tC2LNbNNKlkOtzxtjsM5l24X2m2z68zEMrK56hl3HCjdn8ZwJ0tv6bKl4OWCD7fAIU4M9xq67xP16PYTTS4uNFJseOiqJPrsrbnISMyfRB0oPCpuAJt/s1600/SAM_0583_edited-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz5seVe2M9kH3SPEMsaYLe6cjm5tC2LNbNNKlkOtzxtjsM5l24X2m2z68zEMrK56hl3HCjdn8ZwJ0tv6bKl4OWCD7fAIU4M9xq67xP16PYTTS4uNFJseOiqJPrsrbnISMyfRB0oPCpuAJt/s1600/SAM_0583_edited-1.JPG" height="320" width="289" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I printed him some fun paper for hand writing and writing composition. He hates writing with a passion and I am hoping that fun paper will make it a little less difficult. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3WZH_m0LamxJerctqYSuT5yBw46gTPbXabiIgpITOV_L8MtChzFhhyvvex9OKoGh6kybY4RuIzv1-t6hV9v1xT30Z2sTQ1aNsdiAcX1sO8CaQhN3bw4n1QABx4pd00PLTil192Ek3Ei_F/s1600/SAM_0584_edited-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3WZH_m0LamxJerctqYSuT5yBw46gTPbXabiIgpITOV_L8MtChzFhhyvvex9OKoGh6kybY4RuIzv1-t6hV9v1xT30Z2sTQ1aNsdiAcX1sO8CaQhN3bw4n1QABx4pd00PLTil192Ek3Ei_F/s1600/SAM_0584_edited-1.JPG" height="193" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
At the back of his planner is a game plan or cheat sheets. If he needs to reference them he has a multiplication table, fractions, geometry, coins, clocks, grammar, cursive etc pages for reference. I laminated the pages before I punched and loaded them into the planner. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
He is pretty excited about his planner and will have fun decorating it with stickers and washi tape. I hope it will help the day to day task go easier and he starts more independent learning. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: magenta; font-size: x-large;"><b>My Lesson Planner</b><b> </b></span><br />
<br />
<br />
I also made me a new lesson planner this year, I had been using a 3" binder and it was so huge that is was difficult to use. I decided on pink ARC planner. Since I will be using it everyday might as well make it pretty:)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Since you can punch anything with the arc system, project life cards are great for extra note space or to make quick library list, shopping list, etc. </div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
These are my lesson pages, I made them myself with Excel. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After the lesson pages I have all the misc. paper work course study, field trip list, reading list, extra note paper. I also have several pocket folders in the very back for paper work, teacher verification letter etc. I like this planner is grab and go. I can take it with us if I need to and have everything I need. </div>
<br />
<br />
The planners are made and first week lesson plans are done. It will be a light week with reading and review work just to get back into swing of a schedule. <br />

Why I thought this is a good idea is beyond me, in high school biology I made a deal with my lab partner I would do all his work if he did all the dissections, it was a great deal<img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-left-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-right-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" alt="Smile" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-71Yw5WFDjsM/UiUOsmJCCeI/AAAAAAAAMN0/Y0DPpMIhQU8/wlEmoticon-smile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800"> Since Dad was home for Labor Day it seemed like a great time to dissect owl pellets. Everyone got to participate. It was very interesting and a great learning experiment. We found so many bones such as 6 vole skulls, 2 larger and 4 small ones. We were able to piece together a entire skeleton. </p> <p>I ordered the supplies from Home Science Tools I spent less than 20.00 for a kit, gloves and extra pellets. The ordered arrived within a week. </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-3YesEon44LA/UiUOtLXDxdI/AAAAAAAAMN8/ms8l0CIfOFI/s1600-h/DSC00200_edited-1%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; <span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We completed our first week back at school. It was a successful week thanks in part to a reward chart I am trying to help with attitude problem we have been having. Kiddo has developed an attitude about doing his work and saying he doesn’t like school etc. He does his work but complains about it, has an attitude, or works at an insanely slow pace. I am trying to nip this in the bud before it becomes a real problem. The first week of the reward chart was a success so I hope it will help him to develop a better attitude and better work habit. I found a reward chart on pinterest that fit what I was looking for. He has to do a few things everyday in order to mark that complete on the reward chart and if at the end of the week he has all the circles filled in he gets a reward. I let him help pick the reward he wanted to work for the week. He has to complete the list without be told to do so and I give him only one attitude warning a day any more and the attitude circle does not get filled in for the day. He did really well this first week, he wanted to fill in the circles on the chart so I hope it will continue. The reward chart is on my pinterest homeschool board here is a link: <a href="http://pinterest.com/momofaj/homeschool/" target="_blank">Homeschool Board Pinterest</a></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Our curriculum this year is:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><strong>Math</strong> - Singapore Math 3B (for review) </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Teaching Textbooks 4/5</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Beast Academy (he and Dad are doing this together)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><strong>History</strong> – Story of the World 4</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><strong>Geography </strong>– Apologia Around the World in 180 Days. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><strong>Science</strong> – Apologia Zoology 3 </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><strong>Grammar</strong> – Easy Grammar 4 </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><strong>Spelling</strong> – Sequential Spelling 2</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><strong>Vocabulary</strong> - Wordly Wise 6 </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><strong>Handwriting</strong> – Handwriting Skills D</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><strong>Foreign Language</strong> – French via Live Mocha </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><strong>Bible</strong> – Gotta Have God Devotional for Boys </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><strong>Music</strong> – Piano lessons and The Great Composers </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><strong>Reading </strong>– Reading classics books this year. First one is Little House in the Big Woods.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We are not doing all those lessons every day, we would never finish. French and handwriting is 3 days a week. Math he does one page on Singapore a day, 2 to 3 days a week a Teaching Textbook lesson and he and his Dad are doing Beast Academy together usually once a week. Most of the others we do in some form every day, I have not started The Great Composers book and I may not he has read the book twice and listened to the cd several times since I ordered it. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I am disappointed that Telling God’s Story 3 won’t be available until next spring. We have really enjoyed the first two books. </span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The devotional book I bought to use for Bible is good maybe a little simple for him but will be good to use everyday.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Apologia’s Around the World in 180 days is going to be a challenge for me to plan. It is more of a study guide than a curriculum book. There is a great deal of planning and researching on my part. I decided we are going to study one continent a month so we can take our time and really study each one. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have no trouble stopping to go in depth on something he is really interested in. For example when we studied Ancient Egypt in STOW 1 we spent 6 weeks on it because he likes it so much and he is already excited to study Egypt again in geography. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This week we went to the library and got books on Africa and canine animals for geography and science. He built Africa with Lego. </span><br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-D_DtwlmJP9k/Uett1WhSTHI/AAAAAAAAMB4/o6PTfid6BTA/s1600-h/africa_edited-1%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img alt="africa_edited-1" border="0" height="183" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-C89lNx0wIrs/Uett1k_sBrI/AAAAAAAAMCA/CGGqWjyx-zo/africa_edited-1_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="africa_edited-1" width="260" /></span></a><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We did an internet scavenger hunt for Africa’s topographical features. He colored a map of all the countries in Africa. </span><br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-oMsS6eN80dc/Uett2LyayAI/AAAAAAAAMCI/TRYKdSScb54/s1600-h/IMG_1899_edited-1%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img alt="IMG_1899_edited-1" border="0" height="260" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Ifnz-dWmLHA/Uett2cIoQlI/AAAAAAAAMCQ/5s68vhb6J54/IMG_1899_edited-1_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="IMG_1899_edited-1" width="202" /></span></a><br />

<br />
I am happy we are taking a break but I can not wait to get the new curriculum in. It is like Christmas when boxes of books arrive. <br />
I hope everyone is enjoying spring. I will be back to blog posting in a couple of weeks as I start lesson planning and getting ready to start our new year. We had an awesome time at Legofest. If you ever get a chance to go it is worth it. There are so many stations and builds for the kids to do, master builder classes, life size builds, races, etc. it takes the entire 4 hours. Be sure and bring a bag for freebies and get there a bit early for parking. <br />

We have about a month left then we will take a 6 week or so break and start our new year in July. We do school year round with 2 or 3 three longer breaks throughout the year. It works great for us, Kiddo can’t handle the heat of summer so it is a great time to get school in and then in spring and fall when the weather is cooler we take a break and enjoy the outdoors </p> <p>I have been researching and researching curriculum for next year, with geography being the trouble subject this year. I just can’t find what I want so I will piece it together. Kiddo wants to learn Japanese this year, really Japanese! I have tried to talk to him out of it without much luck so Japanese it is. I am going to use LiveMocha and see how it goes. I have started a list of literature I want him to read this year, he reads so much on his own I have never really made him read certain books but this year I have started a list with his input. </p> <p>Here is my curriculum list for next year I have not ordered yet so it is subject to change <img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-left-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-right-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" alt="Smile" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Evr6SZvEgoE/UXGAQPj0_RI/AAAAAAAALM4/gcfcWMSYIQg/wlEmoticon-smile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800"></p> <p> </p> <p><strong><font color="#0000ff">Bible </font></strong>– Telling God’s Story 3 </p> <p> Gotta Have God Devotions for Boys </p> <p><strong><font color="#0000ff">Science</font></strong> – Apologia Zoology 3 </p> <p> Apologia Chemistry (when finished with Zoology, he can not wait)</p> <p><strong><font color="#0000ff">Math</font></strong> – Teaching Textbooks 5 </p> <p> Singapore Math 4A</p> <p> Beast Academy </p> <p><strong><font color="#0000ff">Language Arts</font></strong> – Easy Grammar 4 </p> <p> Sequential Spelling </p> <p> Wordly Wise 6 </p> <p> Handwriting Skills D</p> <p><strong><font color="#0000ff">Geography</font></strong> – Apologia Around the World in 180 Days </p> <p> Geography Coloring Book </p> <p> Horrible Geography Book Set </p> <p> <strong><font color="#0000ff">Foreign Language</font></strong> – Japanese via Live Mocha </p> <p><font color="#0000ff"><font color="#000000"> </font><strong>Art </strong></font>– Atelier (still working on it)</p> <p><strong><font color="#0000ff"> Music</font></strong> – Piano Lessons </p> <p> Stories of the Great Composers 1</p> <p><strong><font color="#0000ff">Literature</font></strong> – Charlie and the Chocolate Factory </p> <p> The Hobbit </p> <p> Black Stallion </p> <p> Little House in the Big Woods </p> <p> Tales of 4th Grade Nothing </p> <p> Merry Adventures of Robin Hood </p> <p> Conqueror and Hero The Search for Alexander the Great. </p> MomofAJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15095521038526014852noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8960972045407188420.post-68474290971791948342013-03-20T13:06:00.001-05:002013-03-20T13:06:50.997-05:00Wordless Wednesday - Happy Spring <br />

We have been busy on a few home improvement projects. Even though it is only February it looks like it is time to start mowing the yard and my roses are starting to come out. I am not ready for yard work just yet. </p> <p>We had a good week last week, for lessons last week we did something we have done in a long time. A subject a day lessons, it is a great way to break up homeschool without taking a break for school. Kiddo likes the difference and makes school go faster it seems. </p> <p>Today we are studying all things Presidents for Presidents Day and tomorrow will get back to a regular schedule. </p> <p><strong>Just a reminder if you if have not signed up yet for Six Flags reading program it is not too late. You get free tickets for child reading 6 hours and homeschoolers are eligible. </strong></p> <p><strong>Here is the link to sign up. </strong></p> <p><a href="https://feedback.sixflags.com/rts/default.aspx" target="_blank"><strong>Six Flags Read to Succeed</strong></a></p> <p> </p> <p>Have a great week. </p> MomofAJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15095521038526014852noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8960972045407188420.post-13299265322019511102013-02-14T10:52:00.001-06:002013-02-14T10:52:21.480-06:00Happy Heart Day! <span class="userContent"><div class="text_exposed_root text_exposed" id="id_511d14fa207579050609473">

While celebrating everything hearts this month, remember our littlest heart warriors during CHD awareness week. <br /> <br /> One in every 100 babies born in the U.S each year will be diagnosed with congenital heart defect, and up to 30% of those <span class="text_exposed_show">will be considered critical congenital heart defects, meaning those that will result in death without surgical correction within the first year of life. During this week of CHD awarness we do what we can to raise awareness for the detection and treatment of CHDs. Early detection is key in order to save the lives of children affected by a CHD. <br /><br /> Kiddo is our heart warrior. He was born with Tetralogy of Fallot and had open heart surgery at 6 months. He will most likely need another surgery in the future.</span></div>

DH and I got sick first having both parents sick at once is against house rules, but we made it then Kiddo got sick. School the past two weeks has been a lot of reading, drawing, watching Mythbusters, How’s That Made and some math as we could get to it. It was a kind of unschooling while everyone was sick and on medication. </p> <p>We got back on a schedule and full school day this week. It took all day long to get done be we made good progress. Hopefully we will stay healthy and keep on schedule. I hoping to make a library trip this week, more chemistry experiments and to start researching new curriculum for next year.</p> <p> </p> <p>I hope you have a great week and stay healthy. </p> MomofAJhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15095521038526014852noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8960972045407188420.post-91157572973246435392013-01-30T16:00:00.002-06:002013-01-30T16:14:50.446-06:00Wordless Wednesday - Roses <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
