Marathon

Kiddo has finished his first marathon, 26.2 miles.  The ING Kids Rock marathon is run for kids they run 25.2 miles over a 6 to 8 week period and then finish the last mile all together.  You can see if there is one locally to you by checking here http://ingkidsrock.competitor.com/  .   It was organized very well and ran smoothly. The kids are divided up by grade and go at a certain time, parents can run with the kids or meet them at the finish line. The finish line is a secure zone, only parent and child with matching bibs can leave the area.   There were over 7000 kids at the run yesterday and lots of supporters on the sidelines to cheer the kids on. We had a great time and he is looking forward to the next race already.

Weekly Review– All Done

gonefishing

We finished our curriculum this week!  We will be taking a couple of weeks off for a break.  I will be moving everything into a new school area, the unused dining room and working on lesson plans.  I am thinking of trying a workbox system when we start back.  If you use a workbox system and have blogged about leave me a link in the comments, I would love to see your setup.

We will start back in couple of weeks doing school lite as I call it, some copy work, spelling, math and lots of library trips for books.  We will start back with full curriculum in July.  While we are year around homeschoolers now we do take several breaks.

We have lots of activities planned for the next few weeks mostly through our Parks and Recreation Department and are on the wait list for boys gymnastics. He decided that is the class he wants to take.

I will work on a post with a review of the curriculum we used this year and a list of what we are going to be using.  They are virtually the same, I was happy with most everything we used so I am just moving up to the next book.

Have a great weekend.

Weekly Review

weekly review graphic 2
We have been very busy the past couple of weeks, we are almost finished with this years curriculum.  We should finish up next week.  We will then take a couple weeks break before starting back with new curriculum.

I am going to take those two weeks and organize and set up the new school area, we are moving it to the dining room from the office. For the past few weeks I have had school supplies in the office, living room, and dining room, the search and find is driving me a bit crazy.

Kiddo has already started Teaching Textbooks 4 and is the enjoying Beast Academy workbook.  We have looked at the Latin dvd and Driving through History dvd but no real work done on those yet. We have been busy finishing up Latin, Story of the World and Human Anatomy.

Our mini little garden is growing and we are lightly working through Apologia Botany while we garden. The Botany book is the hardest book out of all the Apologia sciences we have done to date.

I will post our new curriculum and hopefully pictures of the new school area when I get it finished or at least to a workable place.

This week we dyed Easter eggs with Kool-Aid, it worked really well and made the kitchen smell good.  It is 2/3 cup of water and 1 package of Kool-Aid, we used strawberry, orange, lemon lime and Iced Blue lemonade(could not find berry blue anywhere).

We also made Easter cupcakes. Confetti cake mix with buttercream icing, toasted coconut and jelly beans.

I did get in a new school supply this week.  My Xyron laminator bit the dust it broke so I ordered this new Scotch Thermal Laminator. I can’t wait to try it out.
